With the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn, and the challenges to the scoring of the bout, now complete attention turns toward accounting and one vital person to the Pacquiao team is saying he has yet to paid.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Roach describes an uncomfortable silence between the two of them in the locker room immediately following the fight. He then goes on to say he isn’t sure if Pacquiao is mad at him because he has yet to be paid.
“Maybe that’s what he thought I was there to tell him [to retire],” Roach says. “But I wouldn’t pick that moment. There were a lot of people. I wouldn’t embarrass anybody like that.” But try as Roach might, Pacquiao didn’t look at or respond to him. “Like he wanted his hair to be perfect,” Roach says.
“I really don’t know if he’s mad at me,” Roach says. “But I can tell you this: I haven’t been paid yet. So who knows?”
Pacquiao returned to the Philippines immediately following the fight to resume his statesmen duties while Roach returned to Los Angeles to train Miguel Cotto for his August bout against Yoshihiro Kamegai.
Pacquiao has yet to make an announcement on whether he intends to rematch against Horn, pick another opponent or retire from the sport.
