The introduction of new Knicks president Steve Mills has stopped nothing when it comes to Carmelo Anthony’s possible exit. He is still very much a priority when it comes to his trade but one person is in the way and he is Ryan Anderson.
Melo’s departure is coming soon and we just want you to be prepared for when the moment happens. Steve Mills is walking into quite a crime scene. You have Kristaps Porzingis who didn’t show to his exit meeting and the biggest topic of them all is Carmelo Anthony. It’s pretty clear that this trade is likely going to happen but one player is holding everything up no one wants Ryan Anderson the $60 million that is left on his deal.
The parameters for a deal are already in place but the final stumbling block is finding a third team to take Ryan Anderson, who is owed $60 million over the next three years.
The Rockets have tried to recruit the Portland Trail Blazers as a trading partner. In that scenario former St. John’s forward Mo Harkless would be traded to the Knicks. The Blazers have resisted and according to ESPN, Portland would prefer to acquire Anthony for themselves as opposed to helping a conference rival. Trail Blazers shooting guard C.J. McCollum has even taken it upon himself to recruit Anthony on Instagram. The Knicks would be willing to deal directly with Portland but Anthony has said he’d only agree to a trade with Houston and Cleveland.
That no trade clause is coming through and extra clutch right now. New Knicks president Steve Mills had a great way of wording this dilemma but definitely didn’t give a concrete answer.
“I think we will be a good developing team if Carmelo is part of the team,” Mills said. “We’ll be a good developing team if he isn’t. We’ll be in constant communication with Carmelo and his camp, and we’ll come to some resolution that works well for both us.”
Where will Melo go? We’ll soon find out if he stays in New York or makes his way out.
