Jay-Z dropped his latest album 4:44 on Friday to rave reviews and critical acclaim. In my opinion, Hov’s best album since American Gangster. Hov discusses a lot of topics and addresses a lot across the albums 10 tracks. For fans of the hip-hop mogul and his superstar “little brother” Kanye West, things don’t seem to be going well. On the album’s opening track, “Kill Jay Z”, Hov raps about giving Ye $20M and Ye returning the favor by putting Jay on blast at the Sacramento stop of his Saint Pablo Tour.
Jay raps:
I know people backstab you, I felt bad too
But this ‘fuck everybody’ attitude ain’t natural
But you ain’t a saint, this ain’t kumbaye
But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye
You gave him 20 million without blinkin’
He gave you 20 minuteson stage, fuck was he thinkin’?
“Fuck wrong with everybody?” is what you sayin’
But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane
According to TMZ the $20M Jay references wasn’t a gift but a standard advance from Roc Nation for Ye’s Saint Pablo Tour. We wrote about Ye leaving Tidal (Jay’s streaming service) as well. Though that is not related to the $20M advance.
We all hope for a reconciliation, but I don’t think things will ever be the same between Hov and Ye. A shame for us and fans of hip-hop. Sad for them, that two brothers appear to be at an impasse.
