Shortly after the passing of ex New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez, his brain was donated for CTE research.
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, can not be diagnosed until after death. Hernandez was determined to have had severe CTE. Hernandez’ fiance Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez has filed a lawsuit against the New England Patriots and the NFL on the behalf of her and Hernandez’ daughter.
According to TMZ Sports, the lawsuits states that “Aaron had stage 3 CTE usually seen in players with a median age of death of 67 years,” and alleges that neither the league nor the team properly informed Hernandez as to the risks involved. Aaron’s former attorney states that researchers have described Hernandez’ case as “the most severe case they had ever seen in someone of Aaron’s age.”
