A Tennessee kickboxing instructor was let go after the owner of the gym noticed he wasn’t standing for the National Anthem.
News Channel 9 in Chattanooga reports that 9Round, an area kickboxing gym terminated Tyler Chancellor after noticing he didn’t stand during a company event. While the employer reserves the right to terminate at-will, Chancellor maintains he wasn’t the only employee seated during the playing of the anthem.
“Me being a minority in this society, I chose to stand up for what I believe in — well, not actually stand up, but sit down for what I believe in,” Chancellor said.
“I wasn’t the only one sitting down,” he said. “There were other minorities in the stands sitting down.”
News Channel 9 confirmed with 9 round that his sitting was the reason he was terminated.
