FL Woman Takes Cops On High Speed Chase, Assaults Them & is Taken Alive

A Florida woman is being charged with driving under the influence, and a slew of additional charges, after taking police on a high speed chase and attempting to bite an officer upon apprehension.

And she lived to tell about it.

The clash between Janice Hastings and law enforcement began when Hastings parked in a fast-food drive through and had to be told to move reports the Miami Herald. Sheriff officials called to the scene approached the car where Hastings sat eating until she peeled off without warning according to arrest report.

According to reports, Hastings accelerated to speeds of nearly 60 m.p.h. before officers were able to deploy spike strips. After attempting to drive on flattened tires, Hastings ultimately stopped and refused to exit her vehicle. Officers broke her window to remove her.

Officers attempted to administer a field sobriety test which Hastings refused before biting the deputy on the scene.

Hastings faces charges of fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence. She was booked into the jail on Stock Island with bond set at $30,000 bond and released Monday afternoon.
