The Los Angeles Clippers duo of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin was one of the greatest shows in the league. The passes from Paul leading to Griffin dunks on the other end labeled them “Lob City.” Behind closed doors though, there was turmoil in the locker room between the two stars. Clippers’ guard Austin Rivers elaborated on these issues, per Lee Jenkins of Sports Illustrated.
“The dynamic with Blake and Chris was weird,” said Rivers. “I don’t know why. It was just strange. No one knew who the leader was, and if you had something to say, it would turn into an argument. I think people were sometimes scared to say something to Blake, because you didn’t know how he’d react.”
The Clippers failed to reach the Western Conference Finals in each of the six seasons from 2011-2016 that Paul and Griffin were together. Despite exceptional coaching from Doc Rivers, the chemistry of the team was not effective enough to dethrone contenders such as the Golden State Warriors or Oklahoma City Thunder. This era ended with Paul being traded to the Houston Rockets this past summer.
