On Tuesday, NFL Twitter nearly had a meltdown when the Panthers announced they were trading star WR Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills for a 3rd and 7th round pick. Panthers fans seemed to have their hearts implode, as the team is currently 5-3 and right in the playoff hunt. Who was Cam Newton going to be passing the ball to now that Benjamin had been shipped off?
One such Panthers fan was 2-time NBA champ Steph Curry. Curry called the trade madness and social media scoffed at the solutions at wide out that the Panthers organization was now suggesting.
Please help me understand this madness…. https://t.co/lds3DE9ujf

I’d have to agree with Steph on this one. At 6’5″ and 240 pounds, Benjamin offered a threat at WR that allowed Cam to position the ball so only he could grab it. Plus his size made it hard for the mostly smaller DBs to effectively shut down. While Devin Funchess approximately the same size as Benjamin, he’s had about half the receiving yards as Benjamin in the same time in the league. Maybe Benjamin’s departure is Funchess’ time to shine, but there are two sides that Cam’s been passing to on the field all these years. Why wait for a departure? Not to mention, 2015 was a Benjamin-less year for the Panthers.
I don’t understand either, Steph…
