The NFL injury riddle season continues, this time the front-runner for MVP goes down. During Sunday’s heavyweight contest between the Philadelphia Eagles vs Los Angeles Rams, the Eagles might have won the battle but could lose the war down the road.
Their franchise quarterback and MVP candidate Carson Wentz tore his left ACL during the game. Wentz tore his ACL on a scramble in the goal line in which he ultimately scored but was called back due to a penalty on the play. The crazy part is Wentz stayed in the game, played four more snaps and threw for his fourth touchdown of the game.
The Eagles won the contest 43-35 and remain the number one seed in the NFC. The battle starts now for the Eagles. The will have to rely now on Nick Foles under center. I believe the Eagles will rely heavily on the running game as they have a great three-headed monster with Blount, Ajayi, and Clement.
The future for the Eagles is now dented, the Eagles were front-runners to win the NFC and now will be tested without their leader. Nick Foles did throw for 27 touchdowns with only 2 interceptions back in his last stint with the Eagles under HC Chip Kelly and his fast pace offense. While this offense is explosive and does have the weapons to put up points, we will have to see how they perform around Foles. The Eagles need to rely on old-school football, rely on their 4th ranked defense and run the ball and control time of possession.
I expect the Eagles to battle and give whoever they face in the playoffs a battle till the end. They certainly have the talent to still reach the super bowl, with Foles under center it will be tough, but certainly doable.
