Blazers HC Terry Stotts on Rockets Being Best Team in NBA, But Will It Matter Come Playoff Time? (Video)

The Houston Rockets made a furious comeback in Portland on Saturday night, outscoring the Blazers 40-19 in the 4th quarter, winning 124-117. Given what he just witnessed, you can excuse Blazers head coach Terry Stotts for a little hyperbole. But Stotts says the Rockets are the best team in the NBA right now. Following the game Stotts said:

They’re the best team in the league right now. We took away their passing, took away their 3s and they best us with one-on-one play.

Can’t really quibble with him on that. Right now the Rockets are a league best 20-4, rank at the top in every offensive category and have a top 5 defense. Now it’s only December and titles aren’t won before Christmas, but the new look Rockets are really good. Come playoff time when games get bogged down in crunch time, and crisp ball movement and 3’s are hard to come by you need someone who can score out of isolation. Last season the Rockets only had Harden to rely on for that, now they have Chris Paul as well. It’s what the Warriors decided to do by getting Kevin Durant. For as good as the Dubs are, only KD and Steph can get a bucket on their own in isolation.

Stotts is right, the Rockets are better than the Warriors, Celtics, and Cavaliers right now. But they’ll have to prove it in May and June when the stakes are the highest. Harden and CP3 have their own playoff demons to exercise, 2018 just might be their year.
