Dion Waiters is averaging 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists per game. He is currently starting for the Heat but the possibility of him coming off the bench has been brought up and he isn’t pleased with that at all.
Per Tom D’Angelo of The Palm Beach Post,
I’m a starter in this league, man, that’s who I am,” said Waiters. “We’re going to nip that in the bud right now. I’m not coming off no bench.”
His points per game average has decreased by one point but this shouldn’t be a reason for him to become a sixth man. Waiters is still capable of lighting up the scoreboard at any moment so patience needs to play a role for the Heat despite Miami’s current standings.
The Heat stand at 12-13 and ninth in the Eastern Conference but are still trying to find their identity. Fans in Miami have been excited about talent such as Waiters, Goran Dragic, Hassan Whiteside, and Justice Winslow but they haven’t been able to find that winning pedigree just yet. Although they’re experiencing early season struggles, Head Coach Eric Spoelstra has been able to find ways to develop his team for 10 years so expect the Heat to progress as the season moves along.
