Do you know how bad of a referee you have to be to be voted the worst one in a league the size of the NBA?
If you don’t, look up some of the games Scott Foster has worked.
Chris Paul is smart enough to know the tendencies of the officials working the games he plays in, but he just can’t seem to figure Foster out. After his Rockets defeated the Trail Blazers 121-112 Wednesday night, Paul vented to ESPN about why he felt a tech (his sixth of the season) he received from Foster was unwarranted:
“Some of them, you can [communicate] with. You’ve just gotta figure out who you can and you can’t. I got a tech tonight. I’m over there with [referee Courtney Kirkland] saying, ‘That’s Scott, that’s Scott,’ and I got a tech. That’s history there. He the man. That’s who they pay to see.”
Paul; who is also the NBA’s player representative, went on to emphasize in addition to moving a player closer to a one-game suspension, techs also cost players money, adding systems need to be in place to stop frivolous calls:
“Man, you’ve just got to hope there’s a system in place, just making sure they get checked just as much as we do,” Paul said. “Even some of those double techs that they call, it’s really quickly and stuff like that. That’s $2,500 every time a tech’s called on a player.”
A meeting between the player’s union & the league is expected to take place during All-Star Weekend to address the issues between players & refs. Remember, Warriors F Draymond Green just spoke on the growing divide between the two.
