Capitalizing on the success of the first Super Fly card, the small men of boxing take center stage once more Saturday night with Super Fly 2 at the Forum in Inglewood, CA and broadcast on HBO beginning at 9:30 ET. While the combatants may not be as well known to the casual fan, the tripleheader card comes fully-loaded with three title fights featuring some of the biggest talent boxing.
Here’s the HBO broadcast breakdown:
Main Event: SRISAKET SOR RUNGVISAI (44-4-1; 40 KOs) vs. JUAN FRANCISCO ESTRADA (36-2; 25 KOs)
Ranked #2 and #3 respectively by the WBC, the victor places himself directly in the crosshairs of the division’s top man Naoya Inoue. Last seen delivering a hellacious knockout blow to the former champion, and pound-for-pound king Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, Srisaket makes a strong case as the man who could not only win Saturday night but reign supreme should he face Inoue.
Estrada, who has been on a win streak since coming up short against Chocolatito in 2012, is a competitive force that has the tools to be a tough stylistic match-up for the super flyweight division’s #2 man Sor Rungvisai.
Should Sor Rungvisai win Saturday night, it sets the stage for what could be the most explosive and competitive fight in recent years between himself and Naoya Inoue. Super Fly 3 anyone?
(It’s never too soon to hope)
Prediction: Srisaket By UD
CARLOS CUADRAS (36-2-1; 27 KOs) vs. MCWILLIAMS ARROYO (16-3; 14 KOs)
Ranked #4 in the division, Carlos Cuadras is not only the former super flyweight champion but a fighting champion that’s been in with the best of the best. With only two losses in recent years, against Estrada and Chocolatito, Cuadras shows no signs of being a washed fighter.
The challenger, McWilliams Arroyo, is expected to be fully game and ready to offer his best opposition and effort but come Saturday night, Cuadras should have little difficulty notching the win.
Prediction: Cuadras by Late Stoppage
DONNIE NIETES (40-1-4; 22 KOs) vs. JUAN CARLOS REVECO (39-3; 19 KOs)
Nietes, the current IBF Flyweight champion, finds himself in the ring against the battle-tested #3 ranked Reveco. Both rugged, competitive, and experienced in the ring, the bout will likely keep the fans entertained but don’t expect a Cinderella story.
Prediction: Nietes by KO
