The road to the Cinco de Mayo weekend rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin officially got underway in Los Angeles on Wednesday when the combatants met in front of fans for the first time since making the fight official.
Addressing the outcome of the first fight, a draw in September 2017, Canelo reminded Sanchez he promised fans that GGG would knock him out in under six rounds. Listening intently, Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez retorted that Canelo fought “the fight not to get knocked out.”
In other words, he ran.
Needless to say, Canelo didn’t appreciate that either and it was off to the races with Sanchez ending the exchange advising him in Spanish not to run.
This time around, both promise a definitive end to the fight. Only time will tell.
