In July 2016, Alton Sterling was selling CDs outside of a Baton Rouge, LA gas station. Cops in the area saw this as a threat, accused Sterling of having a gun, and then fired shots that unjustly ended his life.
Today it was announced that the two cops responsible for Sterling’s murder will not be charged after they acted in a “reasonable and justifiable manner” according to Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry. This comes after the same cops avoided civil rights charges last year.
Sterling’s Aunt Veda Washington-Abusaleh voiced her frustration as she knows that Louisiana police definitely got away with the murder of yet another unarmed black man.
“They’re not going to bring charges on anybody. Why would they do that? This is white America,” said Washington-Abusaleh.
Chris Stewart, attorney for the Sterling family, vowed to continue to fight for justice for him and to get Landry out of office, per CNN.
“It takes courage to fight for justice; we didn’t see that in this situation,” said Stewart. “But that’s fine, because we know what the repercussion is: Getting you out of office.”
