Sixers star Joel Embiid suffered an orbital fracture and concussion on Wednesday as a result from a collision with teammate Markelle Fultz vs the Knicks. He posted an Instagram story saying the situation wasn’t good but the timetable for his return could be faster than people think.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Sixers are hopeful that Embiid can come back in two weeks with the possibility of missing only one playoff game as opposed to the entire series. Head Coach Brett Brown also said said that Embiid is not having surgery right away and that the procedure regarding the injury needs more information.
“After the swelling goes down and whenever the operation happens we’ll all have a better feeling of accurate news,” said Brown (via ESPN). “Right now we don’t have any information.”
Philly still remains at fourth in the East at 45-30. Their chances of clinching homecourt advantage in the first round of the playoffs still seems likely as the teams they face in their final seven games include the Hawks, Hornets, Nets, Pistons, and Mavericks. The other two are playoff teams in the Cavaliers and Bucks.
