A Metra passenger is facing charges after she beat up a judge that intervened as she berated her son
NBC Chicago reports that Elizabeth Pope was overheard on the train telling her 14-year-old son “You are a f—— idiot,” during a profanity-laced tirade. According to court records, an unidentified female court judge, who was also on the train, made eye contact with the young man and told him, “You are not an idiot,” prosecutors said.
Pope, who reportedly smelled of alcohol, told the Judge to stop talking to her son then started punching her with her fists and hitting her with a cell phone. After the Judge pleaded with passengers to get the conductor, Pope was eventually taken off the train and arrested.
Pope has been charged with aggravated battery in a public place. NBC reports she has two previous battery convictions and another pending battery case.
