It’s very hard to keep a job in the NBA when you’ve had two straight seasons of 50+ losses. NY Times has reported the New York Knicks have fired head coach Jeff Hornacek. Reports are that he was fired after Wednesday’s regular-season finale, according to ESPN.
60-104 was Hornacek’s record as the head coach but who knows how things might have turned out if Kristaps Porzingis had stayed healthy. Not to mention the issues with Joakim Noah, this season was just a mess. The trade for Derrick Rose was a miss fire and the Knicks are missing the NBA playoffs for the fifth straight season. What more could the Knicks front office want from Hornacek? Before coaching his last game Hornacek told reporters he’d like to continue coaching these guys.
“We didn’t think it was going to be a one-year turnaround, you expect a rebuilding situation to go out there and win 50 games? That’s why they call it rebuilding. But when you mention rebuilding, you’re still trying to win games.”
Best of luck to the next coach that will be trying to bring playoff basketball back to the Mecca. Mark Jackson, David Fizdale, Jeff Van Gundy and maybe even David Blatt could be replacing Hornacek.
