Imagine going through a process where you are being analyzed as an athlete and having to hide your….athleticism.
Strange huh? Well, that’s exactly what newly drafted Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson had to do during this draft process. Although he’s a Heisman winner and an accomplished quarterback, the versatile signal-caller found himself having to hold back some of his talents.
Jackson was an unconventional draft prospect in almost every way; choosing to hire my mother Felicia as his advisor in lieu of hiring an agent. Additionally, Jackson decided to forego running the 40-yard dash at both the Combine and his Pro Day. Rumblings were that showcasing his speed would strengthen arguments for him to change positions at the NFL level.
Yep; they wanted a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback to become a wide receiver despite Jackson never playing that position in his entire career. Skipping the 40 and his decision not to sign with an agent were likely factors in Jackson falling to the last pick of the first round of the NFL Draft.
