I don’t want to stereotype here; however if there was a player in the NBA whose words, actions, & most times, facial expressions exhibited traits of a certified stoner, guessing it to be J.R. Smith wouldn’t be the longest stretch.
That’s why when Smith appeared on Scott Van Pelt’s segment of Sportscenter & said he was “hitting the green” after the Cavs swept the baby dinosaurs back into extinction, a great number of folks assumed he just outed himself as a cannabis consumer on live TV.
Of course, Smith was (most likely) referring to golf, one of his favorite off-court hobbies.
For his part, Scott Van Pelt admittedly knew the clip would get the Twittersphere going, but kept quiet just in case J.R. wanted to elaborate on his own:
….it was about golf. But, I knew as soon as he said it where it was going on the ole twitter machine. https://t.co/h5H88NaR7i
