The NFL handed down new rules yesterday in regards to players kneeling during the national anthem to protest against racism and police brutality. Teams are allowed to stay in the locker room during the anthem but the league made the ridiculous decision that if they are on the field, players would be fined for kneeling.
Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr has used his white privilege for good by always speaking on racial injustices, police brutality, and Donald Trump’s white supremacy. He didn’t hold back following these new rules by the NFL.
Per Anthony Slater of The Vertical:
“Typical of the NFL. Appealing to their fanbase,” said Kerr. “Basically just trying to use the anthem as fake patriotism, nationalism. Idiotic.”
Kerr also said the NFL is trying to scare people with this rule and he’s glad the NBA supports free speech. He also understands that this was never about disrespecting the flag or troops but was to address injustices in America such as racism and police brutality. Kerr said that this has always been the case until Trump did everything to try to make it about the flag and the troops.
“This is what’s wrong with our country,” said Kerr. “People in high places are trying to divide us and make the flag something other than what it really is.”
