Suge Knight’s request to leave jail to attend his mother’s funeral has been denied due to his categorization in prison.
TMZ reports that Knight requested time out to attend the funeral of his mother Maxine Chatman, who passed on Sunday, but was denied due to categorization as a homicide suspect. Prisoners within that category may not leave the prison for any reason according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
The report goes on to say that Knight’s only legal recourse is to file a petition with the court but the likelihood of success is slim to none.
Knight is still awaiting trial for murder after being accused of running his truck over two men in 2015, with one dying.
