NBA free agency is a day away and Kawhi Leonard still hasn’t been traded from the Spurs yet. The Lakers continue to be the top suitors to land the hometown star.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowsk, what made Leonard finally want out was Tony Parker’s comments back in March about him dealing with the same quad injury that Leonard has but it being 100x worse. He basically questioned Leonard’s toughness and assumed that he was quitting.
“The last straw for him I was told was when Tony Parker made those comments about my quad injury was 100x times worse,” said Woj. “if you remember shortly after Kawhi Leonard left San Antonio and didn’t want to be a part of that media glare there and didn’t come back until the season was over with.”
The Spurs continue to have leverage on the Kawhi Leonard situation as he’s still under contract and they can drag this out as long as they want to until they get a deal that they like.
