Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier was injured last season during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, leading him to undergo spinal stabilization surgery on December 6, 2017. Since then, Shazier has been in and out of rehab and physical therapy with one thing on his mind: returning to the sport that he loves.
The 25-year-old went from being in a wheelchair to only needing a cane to get to the podium in a matter of months after “working [his] tail” off to speed up his recovery and not let this end his career. Shazier has made appearances at games and the NFL Draft to show his support and determination to remain involved with a sport he’s loved “since he was four years old”. He says he’s not afraid of getting injured again and hopes to be back on the field with his teammates in the 2019 season.
