Offset was recently arrested for possession of weapons and drugs by police after stopping him for a lane change in Jonesboro, Georgia. Police are trying to charge the Migos rapper for possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a weapon during a crime, weed possession, and an improper lane change. Police said they found three guns, weed, and large amounts of cash.
Offset’s lawyer Drew Findling is telling TMZ that Offset is completely innocent and broke no violations as he made a proper lane change and this was being used by police as a reason to target him. According to TMZ, Findling has also represented different high-profile celebrities in the past such as Katt Williams, Gucci Mane and Trippie Redd.
Findling also added that police were after Offset because he’s a successful and wealthy black rapper.
“It’s a common theme,” said Findling. “We’re talking about a young, African-American man driving a shiny, beautiful luxury car and clad in designer clothes and watches and jewelry.”
As far as the weapons charge goes, Findling said that Offset wasn’t in possession of the firearm as it was owned by the passenger in his car. It was his assistant who is licensed to carry guns. Findling went on to claim that Offset needs this kind of protection due to him carrying large amounts of cash and jewelry on him all the time.
Offset was able to post $17,000 bail today.
