Cowboys fans hoping to see the starting unit in what’s widely knows as a ‘dress rehearsal’ for NFL teams during the (way too long) preseason, will have to table their excitement for week one.
According to Cowboys ‘Coach-Owner-General Manager’ Jerry Jones, QB Dak Prescott & star running back Ezekiel Elliot will be among a group of starters that won’t see the field the remainder of the preseason:

With two starting offensive linemen out until the start of the regular season, Jones would like to sit quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott as well.
Both were expected to play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in what is traditionally considered the dress rehearsal for the season.Jones said last Saturday that he didn’t need to see Elliott at all in the preseason.
Jones went on to explain that he didn’t want to risk Dak behind a shaky offensive line, which I don’t blame him for. Weighing what’s more important, I don’t think Dak getting reps in week 3 levels with keeping him healthy. If you look at what’s behind him…yuck.
When asked what he thought of Dez Bryant remaining on the market, Jones admitted he was surprised, but offered hope for his immediate future:
“I am surprised,” Jones said. “He has the skills to help a team. I don’t know what kind of shape Dez is in. Knowing Dez and how hard he works, I’ll bet he’s in really fine shape at this point to join an NFL team. It would not surprise me to see him joining a team at this juncture because these rosters are now getting made. I think he’ll be on a team.”
