Details On Ben Roethlisberger In Concussion Protocol, How Long He Might Be Out

Ben Roethlisberger leaving practice early was because of a head injury. According to ESPN, Big Ben left practice early Tuesday after a hit, Mike Tomlin gave a few words on what happened.

“Roethlisberger sustained a hit today in practice, Tomlin said, he is being evaluated by team doctors as part of the concussion protocol.”

Reports are saying Ben went down after rolling out of the pocket and colliding with tackle Marcus Gilbert as he was blocking linebacker Keion Adams. While it’s the preseason and Ben probably won’t see much action, one never wants to see their starting quarterback in the concussion protocol.

The NFL has changed their rules around the game to prevent such head injuries from happening. Regardless of the new rules, football is damn near impossible to make safe. There isn’t a direct timetable for how long Ben will be out, he’s not expected to suit up versus the Green Bay Packers for their second preseason game and shouldn’t if healthy or not.

The Pittsburg Steelers open the season taking on the Cleveland Browns in Cleveland on September 9. Stay tuned for more details on the status of Big Ben.
