Tyron Woodley’s confidence is unwavering as he prepares to enter the octagon Darren Till at UFC 228 but that doesn’t mean he’s willing to settle for a back-up if the fight doesn’t go off.
BSO attended an intimate lunch with the welterweight champion to discuss his title defense and whether or not he’d be willing to fight a stand-in (Kamaru Usman) if for some reason the Till fight comes undone.
Whether he weighs 170 or 176, he’s still going to get his ass whooped.
“It’s Till or no fight at all, I don’t even know why they did that.”
“Would I fight Usman? Yeah, I would fight Usman, I would fight Usman on a full training camp. I’ll fight anybody on a full training camp.
“You’re not going to have me prepare for a 6-3 striker southpaw, and then 24 hours before the fight, because of this M****F**** missed weight and he’s unprofessional, now I’ve got to fight a 5-10 switch-stance wrestler. No – you’re not going to waste my time.
You’re not going to waste my money that I forked into training camps. You’re not going to add this one crazy variable and make me feel like I’m the punk, or I’m the pansy, for not taking the fight. No. It’s not going to happen.
Woodley goes on to explain why he believes he’s hitting his peak despite being one of the oldest current champions in the UFC.
Most power, most experience so what advantages do you have [Till] just because you’re 24 years old?
I’m 36 years old but I haven’t even reached my peak yet? When have we seen me do everything in a fight?
I’m still waiting for that day I put it all together all in one fight.
