J.R. Smith has turned himself in to police in New York for an incident involving him stealing and thowing someone’s cell phone in July at The Park, per TMZ Sports. Smith reportedly stole the phone from that person. It all stemmed from not wanting to take a photo with the fan.
Police said that the phone was thrown into a construction site and it broke immediately. Smith met with police this morning and is being charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief. He was also assigned a court date.
Smith’s lawyer Alex Spiro told TMZ Sports “This is nonsense, and we aren’t responding to nonsense. He was issued a ticket.” Smith had no responses when asked about the phone or the victim.
