The BIG3’s second season culminates with the championship game this Friday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Power, led by Corey Maggette and Glen “Big Baby” Davis, takes on 3’s Company and their perimeter duo of Andre Emmett and Baron Davis. Power was the class of the league all season, finishing with a 7-1 record and a +72.8 in total point differential. 3’s Company finished 5-3 and came on in the playoffs behind the sharp shooting of Andre Emmett.
The championship will be a contrast in styles. Power will need to rely on its defense and inside out play. Feeding the ball to Big Baby on the block and allowing him to operate or pass out to the wing and leading scorer Maggette. Cuttino Mobley will also be key for head coach Nancy Lieberman’s squad with his ability to still create space off the bounce and knock down shots.
Coach Michael Cooper’s 3’s Company will rely on the aforementioned Emmett and hope his hot shooting continues. Baron Davis’ creativity and Dahntay Jones’ ability to get to the rim will help free up Emmett as well. Should be an exciting contest, these guys though past their NBA days, are still competitors and want to show out.
It’ll be a close contest but in the end, Power takes it. They were the best team in the league all season and they finish it off at Barclays Center. If you’ll be in the area, tickets are still available. Visit big3.com for more info.
