Canelo Alvarez signed a $365 million contract with DAZN to make him the signee of the biggest contract in sports history, and he is not wasting any time angling for a fight with Floyd Mayweather. Canelo threw some sharp criticism at Floyd for his fight with McGregor and a potential fight with Khabib, calling it a blow to boxing’s credibility.
A younger Canelo was easily defeated by Mayweather in 2013, so there is more to Canelo’s criticisms that his concern for the state of boxing. Canelo quickly got to the point and called for a second fight versus Mayweather and called it a great fight for fans. It would also be a very lucrative fight for DAZN who has invested heavily in Canelo and would probably be able to recoup their $365 million investment with just one Mayweather-Canelo fight.
Figuring out a catchweight would be the most complex problem to solve since Canelo is now setting his sights on the 168-pound Super-Middle Weight division, but the right amount of money could make any amount of pounds disappear. Mayweather-Canelo 2 is highly unlikely right now, but a lot of “experts” said the same thing about Mayweather-McGregor and look at what happened with that circus. Flip the page for the video from TMZ.
