Las Vegas police are opening up a case from 2009 regarding a rape case involving Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Associated Press. Attorney Leslie Mark Stovall says her client Kathryn Mayorga was sexually assaulted on June 13, 2009 in his hotel room.
In a new statement by police, they said the case is officially reopened and detectives are following up on information provided by Mayorga. They concluded by saying the case is ongoing and no further info will be provided at this time.
“Ms. Mayorga’s filed complaint, the physical evidence of her sexual assault, answers to written questions regarding the sexual assault attributed to Cristiano Ronaldo, the communications and conduct of the ‘team’ representing Cristiano Ronaldo, the circumstances surrounding the purported agreement for settlement and non disclosure, and the psychological injuries suffered by Ms. Mayorga are not ‘fake news,'”said Stovall in response to Ronaldo saying the accusations are false.
Ronaldo went to the extreme to try to prove that Mayoraga is a liar, according to her. The Daily Mail says that he allegedly hired a detective to follow her around to gather proof that she lied about Ronaldo raping her. He also allegedly paid her off to remain quiet about the case.
Mayoraga told German magazine Der Speigal that what gave her the courage to speak out against Ronaldo were the #MeToo victims sharing their stories of sexual assault. Flip the pages for photos of Ronaldo and Mayoraga from 2009 and him on Instagram denying all accusations, courtesy of The Daily Mail.
