Former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez committed suicide in his cell in Massachussetts last April. It was revealed that Hernandez had the worst case of CTE examined of an NFL star and now, there could be more answers to his death. In a new report from the Boston Globe, police state that Hernandez was using the marijuana K2 days before his death. This was part of a 132-page public report.
Two different cellmates said that Hernandez started using K2 regularly after the acquittal of his 2012 double murder in Boston. They also added that Hernandez used this to calm his nerves in the hope that he’d finally beat his 2013 murder case involving him killing his close friend Odin Lloyd. One of the cellmates also said no matter how dangerous the drug is, people there will continue to use it.
“We see many, many cases of people using synthetic cannabinoids and other novel psychoactive substances that are aggressive toward themselves,” said toxicologist Marilyn Huestis. “Psychosis is common.”
K2 is reportedly a popular form of marijuana among cellmates. It’s supposedly very attainable and is difficult to detect in drug tests.
It will be interesting to see what further information comes out regarding what prompted Hernandez to take his life away. A difficult childhood and questions about his own sexuality have both played key factors. Many have different theories as they say that he was murdered in prison.
