The three-point shot is a major focal point in the new age NBA. Guys like Curry, Thompson, Durant, and Harden all have benefited from this new age style of play. But last night, Jame Harden and the Houston Rockets used the three-point shot to propel them to a convincing 136-118 win over the Washington Wizards, and an NBA record of most threes in a game.
The Rockets shot 26-of-55 from 3-point range which broke the NBA record for threes made, the record was held by the Cleveland Cavaliers when they hit 25 of 46 treys in 2017 in a win over the Atlanta Hawks. This is now the second time in the D’Antoni era that this Rocket team has had the record. Before it was previously held by the Cavaliers, the Rockets shot 24 of 61 in a victory in 2016 over the New Orleans Pelicans. Houston’s 61 attempts that night still stands as a record for most attempts in a game.
Former 2014 Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams solidified their mark in NBA history with is big three-pointers with 31.1 secs left in regulation. It is ironic that Carter-Williams was the one to hit the shot due to the fact the Rockets had missed their last four three-point attempts, yet he is the one that hit the shot with his career three-point percentage sitting at 25.4 percent.
Carter-Williams had this to say on if they were trying to go after the record “We knew that if we didn’t at least attempt it, we would have heard it in the locker room.” via ESPN
J James Harden who had a game high of 35 points and made six threes while shooting 54 percent from three-point range added this to Carter-Williams comments “Not even us — the crowd; the crowd would have attacked them.” via ESPN
T his Rockets team seems to be firing on all cylinders at the moment, especially with their dominating and record-breaking win against the Wizards making it their fifth straight win since December 11. More record-breaking moments could be in store for this team down the road.
