A high school football player will be tried for the murder after confessing he killed his pregnant girlfriend.
The South Bend Tribune reports that Aaron Trejo will be charged with murder after stabbing his girlfriend, Breana Rouhselang to death.
Officers returned to the alley behind Rouhselang’s home and located glasses and a stocking cap that matched a description given by the girl’s mother. After what appeared to be blood was found on the hat, police secured the area.
Officers soon found more blood, which led them to find Rouhselang’s body in a dumpster behind Pasquale Rulli’s restaurant near Division and Battell streets — only a block away from her home. Her body was found with a trash bag over her head and upper torso, according to court documents.
According to a probable cause affidavit, police say Trejo initially denied he met with Rouhselang the night of her disappearance, but when confronted with the physical evidence, eventually told them Rouhselang waited too long to tell him about the baby and it was too late for an abortion.
When asked what he did about it, Trejo reportedly told police, “I took action… I took her life,” according to court documents.
During the course of questioning, Trejo confessed to investigators that he went out into a river to dispose of Rouhselang’s cell phone and the murder weapon. The autopsy report revealed that the victim was pregnant and ultimately succumbed after multiple stab wounds and strangulation.
Trejo, who will be tried as an adult, faces up to 65 years in prison on the murder charge.
