There are consequences for attempting a chase down block. If a player catches up and performs a highlight block they are featured on highlights and social media clips for days. However, if they don’t catch up in time and get dunked on, and then stepped over, they might become a meme for life.
Giannis Antetokounmpo caught the short end of this dilemma and caught the unholy trifecta of getting dunked on, stared down, and then stepped over by Mario Hezonja. The Bucks also went on to lose the game in overtime to the Knicks by a score of 136-134.
After the game, Giannis expressed his displeasure with Hezonja’s antics and promised to exact some severe revenge on the Knicks forward. Hezonja’s staredown after the dunk, while Giannis was sprawled across the floor, was the most disrespectful part of the sequence in my opinion.
