I think Ray Rice’s heart is in the right place, but it is wrong to lump him and Kareem Hunt together.
I think it is easy to do so because they are both black, running backs and out of the NFL after something was exposed on video, but the actions themselves are nothing alike.
Rice with a closed fist knocked his then fiancee out and dragged her out of an elevator. It was a vicious full force punch from a professional athlete to someone he loved.
Hunt pushed and lightly kicked a woman who he didn’t know, who wouldn’t leave him alone, struck him and his friend and called him a n*gger.
Hunt has had other minor altercations, but those have all been with men, not women. Here is what Rice had to say to CBS this morning.
In the interview, in which he appeared with his wife, Janay, Rice said he sees similarities with himself after a video showed former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt shoving and kicking a woman at a hotel last month.
“Well, obviously, you know, you look back and you see the similarities,” Rice said in the interview.
There literally are none and it is unfair to Hunt to say so. This isn’t excusing Hunt’s behavior, but we have to use some common sense.
