We first heard of Jonathan Martin when he was at the center of a bullying scandal during his time with the Miami Dolphins. It all turned out to be a big mess as Richie Incognito was found to be the center of the whole scandal in the Dolphins locker room. This whole scandal turned out to impact Martin’s career as well, as he never seemed to recover from the whole ordeal.
Well months later, Martin was again back in the news. But for something much more serious and potentially life-threatening in nature. You may have heard about Jonathan Martin being arrested after posting a photo that seemingly was a threat to shoot up a Los Angeles high school. The photo had multiple firearms, a threatening message, and tags of former teammates that bullied him during his time with the Miami Dolphins.
Now some new details are coming about the previous story.
Before the judge’s decision, an LAPD detective testified that Martin’s web search history showed he pulled up a story about Incognito just hours before he ordered his pump-action shotgun from American Gun Works on Feb. 9. -via NYDY
Det. Peter Doomanis further testified that Incognito was so freaked out when he learned about the post on Feb. 22, he hopped in a car with his dad, brother and dog and drove north from Scottsdale, Arizona, for two hours to meet an FBI agent at a safe house.
A judge recently supported the case going to trial after Martin’s lawyer testified Martin wasn’t well mentally
“He was struggling with his own demons. That’s what this is,” the lawyer told the court, arguing the post was not specific enough to constitute a criminal threat under the law.
The judge disagreed, saying she found enough evidence to warrant putting the case before a jury.
Now all we can hope is that Martin can get the help that he needs. An incident like this screams mental health trouble and it needs to be addressed as so. Until then, he’s going to go to trial and face his chargers.
