The Sixers stand at 26-14 and fourth in the East but that’s been overshadowed by Jimmy Butler recently clashing with Head Coach Brett Brown over how the offense should be ran. There has also been some frustration from him with Joel Embiid.
Now, Yaron Weitzman of Bleacher Report is reporting that after the Butler-Brown drama, teams had called Philly in hopes of trying to acquire Butler. This all comes ahead of Butler’s upcoming free agency this summer.
“According to a Sixers source, opposing GMs have already called to ask if this latest blowup means Butler might be on the market. This, as rumors swirl around NBA circles that the Sixers, spooked that Butler will bolt when he becomes a free agent this summer, are contemplating dealing Butler before the trade deadline. The Sixers source firmly denied that the team has even considered dealing Butler.” (Via Bleacher Report)
This is not a surprise considering that Butler gives Philly a solid lift in being a contender in a wide open Eastern Conference. He could give Philly the push they need to finally beat the Celtics in the playoffs. How they fare in the postseason could decided in the end where Butler signs this summer.
