The problem with trading either is their contracts.
Also, the Grizzlies trying to get rid of Chandler Parsons contract, but no one wants to touch that.
Gasol, 33, can become a free agent this summer by opting out of the final year of his $25.5 million contract for 2019-20. He has a trade kicker on his contract that would be valued at $1.5 million at the time of the February deadline.
Conley has an early termination option for the 2020-21 season, which includes $22.4 million of his $34.5M salary guaranteed. The balance of the deal’s final year is fully protected if Conley plays in 55 games this season. So far, he has played 46 games and could reach the criteria by early February.
Gasol may be a little easier than Conley, but both would be a hard sell.
