Several stars including Nick Cannon, have spoken out against rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi for agreeing to performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show. This is due to the lack of support the NFL has shown towards protests of social justice and police brutality more specifically the protest of the national anthem by former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who has not found a team willing to sign him after his peaceful protest.
Legendary singer Gladys Knight has also confirmed that she will be singing the national anthem and has no plans on backing out. As per TMZ, Knight
Despite the criticism, Knight has doubled down on her decision to perform — saying she hopes to use the Super Bowl platform to unite the country.
Destiny Child’s member Kelly Rowland who has previously performed during the Super Bowl was asked about Knight’s decision to sing the national anthem. Rowland is set to play Gladys Knight in a BET series called “American Soul” and was asked by TMZ what she thought about Knight singing the national anthem and whether she would perform if the NFL asked her.
Rowland gave the politically correct answer regarding Knight’s performance but did add that she would decline an offer from the NFL to perform during the Super Bowl.
