The Los Angeles Lakers have been aggressively trying to acquire Anthony Davis for the past week. However, Magic Johnson and company have fell short.
Instead of electing to take 90 percent of the Lakers roster, it appears the Pelicans are going to draw this out into the summer, where there could already be an under the table agreement in place.
“A source with knowledge of the talks said the potential centerpiece in a Pelicans package, 20-year-old Celtics small forward Jayson Tatum, has been discussed extensively by the two teams,” Amick said. “And is expected to be a major part of the talks when June rolls around.”
This is all comes down to Jayson Tatum only being 20-years-old and the fact the world saw him battle it out with LeBron James last spring without Kyrie Irving.
As you could imagine, every team in the league would love to have AD on their squad. At the same time, reports surfaced that Davis would only sign long-term with the Clippers, Lakers, Knicks, and Pelicans.
While the Celtics aren’t on AD’s list now, Danny Ainge may feel it’s worth the risk because you hurt the Lakers and if you can convince him to stay, Boston will be a legit title contender for years to come.
