The NFL, former quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Panthers’ Eric Reid have resolved the long collusion case according to Kaepernick’s lawyer Mark Geragos.
The grievance was filed last fall under the collective bargaining agreement alleging that teams would not sign him due to his protest during the national anthem. Many tried to make it seem like he wasn’t statistically good enough to play but below average quarterbacks like Mark Sanchez, Nathan Peterman and Josh McCown were signed to NFL teams.
Kaepernick’s last season starting (2016), he had 2,241 passing yards, 468 rushing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and four interceptions in 11 games. Last time Sanchez started (2012), he had 13 touchdowns, 18 interceptions in 15 games.
Reid was receiving the same treatment when it comes to teams not signing him until late September when the Carolina Panthers signed him. When all thought it was somewhat back to normal, Reid is targeted and is drug tested seven times in eleven games.
Panthers head coach Ron Rivera thought that was a bit odd even though the NFL and NFLPA stated there was no evidence of targeting.
“If my name came up that many times, I’d buy a lottery ticket.” Rivera said.
During the collusion case, the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and others were selected to provide information like cell phone records and emails related to Kaepernick’s case to see if teams didn’t sign him based on political beliefs and not talent. Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and others were part of the deposition.
The only thing we don’t know at this time about the conclusion of this case is what was agreed upon as it’s considered a “confidentiality agreement”. The two sides have signed non-disclosure agreements to not speak publicly about the settlement. So it’s seems we won’t know who won the case.
Look how people are reacting to the hush settlement, their views on the whole mayhem and NFLPA’s statement on the future of Kaepernick and Reid.
