For most people, the ultimate goal of dating is to eventually get married. However, in a lot of cases, the determining factor could be whether or not your family approves of your significant other.
This is why OWN’s newest reality TV relationship show “Family or Fiance” is genius. Eight engaged couples bring their families together under the same roof for three days. For some involved, this will be the first they ever met.
It can be cliche to say that no one else matters except for your lover, but after your family lives with them and disapproves, things could change. The goal is to bring the two families together and to see how the couples maintain in that environment.
Obviously in a perfect world, you’d want your family to fully embrace the person you plan on marrying, but it doesn’t always work out that way.
Relationship expert Tracy McMillan serves as the voice of reason of the show. Her role is to dive deep into the newlyweds-to-be hearts and to fully unpack any doubts or concerns they may have about each others family. Also, she wants them to be completely honest about how they feel and what they want, even if that means it may heart some feelings.
The show premiered March 9, but don’t worry, episode 2 will air March 16 at 10 P.M. ET/PT.
I was lucky enough to attend a private screening of Episode 2 at the OWN office in Hollywood and afterwards, I caught up with McMillan to gather some relationship advice for you.
