The Dallas Cowboys have their safety.
The Cowboys have agreed to a 1-year deal with S George Iloka, who spent last season with the Minnesota Vikings, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.
After flirtations with Earl Thomas, Thomas signed a 4-year $55 million deal, with $32 million guaranteed with the Baltimore Ravens, leaving the Cowboys in search for starting safety.
The Cowboys met with former Kansas City Chiefs S Eric Berry earlier this week, but Berry is still considering his options at this point and left without signing a contract.
Iloka, a Boise State product, will replace Jeff Heath in the secondary and will serve as an upgrade at the position for the defensive play-caller Kris Richard.
He joins a talented secondary that features Byron Jones, Xavier Woods, Jourdan Lewis and others.
Iloka, who will be 29 at the end of the month, spent last season with the Vikings after spending his first 6 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals where he started 76 games.
For his career, Iloka has 9 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.
The Cowboys may not be done yet as they hold the 58th pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
With a deep defensive class, the Cowboys may still look to address the position, even with the addition of Iloka.
