Draft SZN is fully upon us now that a lot of pro days are over and free agency has slowed down. With that happening, we have mock drafts flying out one by one, but NONE as informative as mines. Cocky? Eh I doubt it, but confident, sure.
Excuse my rambling, but without further ado, here is BSO’s first mock draft for this draft season.
1. Arizona Cardinals- EDGE/ DE Nick Bosa, Ohio State
At first, I was a believer in the Kyler Murray to Arizona train. Pairing him with Kliff Kingsbury makes just too much sense. But I’ve been getting a feeling that it just won’t happen. So I’m not buying the idea anymore. Instead, the Cardinals take arguably the best player in the draft in Nick Bosa and plug him on their defense. The Cardinals have plenty holes on their roster. Adding Bosa takes one away and could be the premier guy off the edge in Arizona for years to come.
2. San Francisco 49ers- EDGE Josh Allen, Kentucky
The 49ers could stick to their theme of adding interior defensive line talent, but their EDGE situation isn’t ideal. Adding Allen with already developing young defensive talent could be a match made in heaven.
3. New York Jets- OL Jawaan Taylor, Florida
The Jets are set at QB with Sam Darnold, but don’t have talent at the tackle position to keep him upright. Adding a player of Jawaan’s caliber sets up Darnold to be kept protected for the foreseeable future. This pick might be more of a reach value wise, but with the top EDGE rushers off the board and no need for iDL, the Jets select their potential bookend tackle.
4. Oakland Raiders- DL Quinnen Williams, Alabama
The Raiders need help on the defensive line badly, whether that’s on the edge or inside. Selecting Quinnen Williams adds a dominant interior defensive line presence and will stop the horrifying problem of little pressure on the defensive line…well it would be a start.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- LB Devin White, LSU
The Bucs have a larger need at CB, but taking a player like Greedy Williams this high is a bit of a reach in my opinion. They selected the speedy linebacker out of LSU instead. White has plenty of what I just said, speed. In an era where defenses need as much versatility as possible to combat evolving NFL offenses, White fits the bill. He isn’t the usual big, mean looking linebacker, but he does his job and fits a big hole for the Bucs defense.
6. New York Giants- QB Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State
Eli Manning in no way should be starting for the Giants, but here we are. The Giants need a QB badly and drafting Haskins fills that need. He has a strong arm and has been linked to the Giants for a long while now. Sliding Haskins as the franchise guy after Eli is gone should be exciting to Giants fans who might not have too much be to be excited about right now.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars- TE Noah Fant, Iowa
The Jaguars already have their QB situation under control due to the signing of Nick Foles. Now they need to add playmaking around him and Noah Fant will do that job. They have the option of selecting either Hockenson or Fant, but opt for the better receiving option in Fant to start out the Foles era in Jacksonville.
8. Detroit Lions- EDGE Brian Burns, Florida State
The Lions are in a favorable position to draft Burns here. They signed Trey Flowers to pair him up with Matt Patricia again, but adding another force off the edge is a must. With a nice option of Damon Harrison in the middle and with Flowers off the edge, adding Burns will give Patricia some toys to work with on the defensive side of the ball.
9. Buffalo Bills- OL Jonah Williams, Alabama
The Bills addressed some needs on the offensive side of the ball in free agency, but still take an offensive player here in Jonah Williams. The Bills offensive line is awful, so adding a player like Williams makes a lot of sense. It doesn’t matter where Williams plays, at guard or tackle, he’ll instantly upgrade the line.
10. Denver Broncos- QB Drew Lock, Missouri
The Broncos traded away Case Keenum and added Joe Flacco to round out their QB situation. They take Lock at 10 here to take over the reins as the franchise QB later on. Lock has been billed a strong-armed QB, but has some questions regarding his accuracy. Nevertheless, Lock is the pick here at 10.
