Empire actor Jussie Smollett is a free man after prosecutors dropped criminal charges against the 36-year old. He was facing 16 counts for orchestrating a hate crime on January 29 in Chicago as he was unhappy with his pay on the Fox show.
His lawyers, Tina Glandian and Patricia Brown Holmes, made a statement today:
Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him. Jussie was attacked by 2 people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public, causing an inappropriate rush to judgment.
He surrendered his $10,000 and will do community service. The Cook County State attorney office “believes this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution.”
Once again because of the Chicago PD being corrupt is the reason this case isn’t going to trial. They made numerous false statements, they leaked information and made a much bigger deal about the case than they should have. They overcharged Smollett and in the end, it made no sense to go this hard at someone when real violent crimes were taking place.
Look how Twitter is reacting to the shocking results of the case, Smollett’s attorney’s statement and the state attorney offices “reason”.
