Zion Williamson is back.
The ACC Freshman and Player of The Year returns tonight at the ACC Tournament against Syracuse.
Williamson has been out of action for nearly the last month due to a knee sprain.
The freshman injured his knee on Feb. 20th in Duke’s first meeting against North Carolina, a game in which they lost.
Debate raged across college basketball on if the freshman should return at all from the knee injury in order to prepare for the NBA Draft in June.
Williamson is considered the number one pick in this year’s Draft and many felt he should forego the rest of the season in order to secure his bag instead of return to Duke for free.
Williamson responded to critics saying he should sit out,
“I just can’t stop playing. I’d be letting my teammates down. I’d be letting Coach K down. I’d be letting a lot of people down. If I wanted to sit out, I wouldn’t have went to college. I came to Duke to play.”
The Blue Devils have struggled since losing 3 of 6 as they are now in the ACC Tournament.
Superstar freshmen Cam Reddish and R.J. Barrett have struggled with the absence of Williamson out of the lineup.
Both players though will be happy to see the return of the consensus National Player of The Year just in time for the NCAA Tournament next week.
Duke has been a prohibitive favorite all season long to win the National Championship.
With the return of Zion, Duke’s chances of securing a number one overall seed and winning a national title have dramatically increased.
