UFC Fight Night Preview: Can Anthony Pettis Hang With The Move To Welterweight? Plus Prediction For The Main Event

UFC Fight Night is scheduled to go down here tonight in Nashville, TN and with that comes an intriguing storyline regarding the main event between Anthony Pettis(21-8) and Stephen Thompson(14-3-1). One fighter in the name of Anthony Pettis is looking to steal a win tonight in what Pettis has called “a test of his martial art skills”. Pettis is also coming up to fight in the welterweight division for the first time since 2008.

Thompson on the other hand is fighting for a chance to get back into the title conversation in the crowded welterweight division. Talent that includes the likes of Tyron Woodley and now Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Getting a win tonight over a foe with the pedigree of Pettis would go a long way.

For the fight itself, it should be an even matched fight. Both are excellent with their striking, in fact 2 of the more creative strikers in the UFC. So there should be no shortage of fireworks between the 2 fighters tonight.

Both are coming off tough losses with Pettis’ coming in an excitement filled bout with Tony Ferguson and Thompson losing by decision to Darren Till back in May of 2018. Pettis is a mere average in his last six fights at 3-3 and is looking to rebound.

Thompson however will have the upper hand tonight I believe. He’s a natural welterweight and understands range among the best. Pettis is just coming up to welterweight and will have some adjusting to do in the firs couple of rounds possibly. With that being said, I have Thompson winning tonight. He’s the much better suited welterweight and has a range that Pettis simply can’t counter. Pettis is a warrior though, so I believe he’ll stick in there through the whole fight.

Prediction: Thompson Wins By Decision

Odds: Thompson: -340 Pettis: +310
