Cam Newton didn’t look right towards the end of the 2018 NFL season. That was mostly due to a shoulder injury that had been bothering him for a while. It played a factor in why Carolina finished 7-9 after starting 6-2 as well.
Now, Newton definitely has that chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of the Charlotte Observer, Newton thinks everyone is counting him out after his shoulder surgery.
“I’m going through a trying time in my life, where I need things that’s going to make me better,” said Newton. “I’m coming off surgery on my shoulder and there’s a lot of people that’s kind of counting me out. There’s also new talent coming in that wants my spot, for whatever it’s worth. It’s also things that I’m seeing through the lens of, ‘Cam lost a step.’
Newton added that he wants to knock all of this s*it out the park and when he’s focused, he’s still dangerous. Newton won’t be as explosive, but he’ll still have the talent he’s always had. Carolina definitely needs more depth at WR though, especially if they still want to compete with teams in their division that will be contenders such as the Saints and Falcons.
